A Dog’s Purpose, A Novel for Humans

A Dog's Purpose, A Novel for Humans

W. Bruce Cameron
2010

In this bestselling novel, we follow a dog searching his purpose in life through many reincarnations. Each new reincarnation making his search more complete.

This book makes us view the word in a dog’s perspective. Examples: odors play an important role; cats are difficult to understand and not liked; food is an obsession.

“I decided that no matter how many times they said my name, this conversation wasn’t going to result in anything edible.” page 210

“Sit” he commanded.
I dropped my bottom onto the floor, but it didn’t want to stay there. page 219

“Felix apparently thought I was his mother, which was insulting, but he was a cat and therefore, in my opinion, completely brainless.” page 159

“Dogs have important jobs, like barking when the doorbell rings, but cats have no function in a house whatsoever.” page 142

“I eased into the kitchen, but as usual the floor was antiseptically clean, free of anything edible.”  page 221

A film was produced from this book in 2017 “A Dog’s Purpose” (Mes vies de chiens) but it definitely does not do justice to the book.

The film is more an adventure story for children. The book makes us reflect about our purpose in life.

A must read book.
