Teach your dog to be catched
by the collar in an emergency
In an emergency, it is possible that we have to quickly catch our dog by his collar. So it can be helpful to get our dog used to it being nice to get caught by the collar even in a sudden way. Indeed, some dogs may have an orientation reflex, turn toward the hand that approaches, open mouth and bite without having bad intentions
It is easy to reduce this risk by accustoming our dog to the fact that a hand that quickly approaches his neck is synonymous with reward. To do this, just practice it.
The procedure:
• In a calm environment, face the dog, bring your hand gently to the collar and give the other hand a reward.
• In the beginning, the dog will have an orientation reflex towards the hand that approaches the collar. Our goal is to make the dog anticipate something nice that will happen on the other side.
• Gradually increase the capture speed of the collar.
• Vary environments and positions.
• It is not necessary to speak.
